キュレーションチームから、改めてスピーカーの皆さんを紹介 – その１

[English follows Japanese]現在、キュレーションチームは、各スピーカーと講演内容をさらに充実したものにするべく、打ち合わせとリハーサルを重ねています。
スピーカープロフィールだけでは分からない登壇者の魅力を、彼らに一番近いキュレーションチームから、２回に分けてお届けします。

建築家の山崎さんの言葉や立ち振舞からは、節々に丁寧な心遣いをもって世界に触れているように感じます。しかしその真の姿は、とても深く濃い怒りを秘めているのではないかと感じています。そしてその、秘めた怒りから発せられる熱こそが山崎さんの魅力なのではないかと考えています。
山崎さんの生み出す建築には「暖かさ」と「熱さ」が同居しているように感じます。
彼が心に秘めている怒りを「暴力」として世界に発信するのではなく「心遣い」として世界に表現すること。その大切さを感じることができると思います。それは、多くの優しい人々が意図せずそして意思とは反して暴力的な振る舞いをしてしまう瞬間に届いてほしいと思っています。

「デロリアンEV化計画」リーダーの藤井さんもまた、とても面白い方です。
というのも、誰が見てもキャッチーな「デロリアンEV化計画」という行動をしておきながら、本当にやりたいことは別にあるように感じるからです。
持続可能な社会の実現といえば、一般的には再生可能エネルギーの利用を促進することなど…が言われますが、藤井さんが言いたいのはそれらよりももっと高次元な考えだと思います。例えば、2010年に行った「ビールと生ゴミでデロリアンを走らせる」というイベントのような。
映画のデロリアンのように「絶対にムリ！」と思うような方法でタイムトラベルという「夢の様なこと」を実現するその「常識と常識の間にあるズレ」の中にこそ答えがあるのではないでしょうか（もしくは答えにたどり着くための道）。
藤井さんのトークは、デロリアンEVを生み出す中で出会った「未来」にたどり着くための道標を聞けるのではないかと思っています。

弁護士であり、NPO法人ストップいじめ！ナビ理事の真下さん。「マジで！」という真下さんの言葉が好きです。それは特に、普通の人であれば足がすくんでしまうような困難にぶつかった瞬間に発せられたものが好きです。
真下さんが挑んでいるのは「いじめ」というとてもセンシティブで、問題が複雑化しやすい問題の解決です。この問題に、弁護士という強力な力を持ちながらも「平等である」ことを求められる立場から挑んでいます。
そのため、言葉の一つ一つにはさまざまな立場に対する配慮や遠慮が隠れているため、難しく感じてしまう場面もあります。けれども、真下さんの言いたいことはシンプルです。
「いじめ、解決しようよ」
小学生でもわかるこの言葉を、そのまま言っても伝わらないことこそが真下さんが戦っているものの本質なのではないかと思います。

メンターのシャノンさんは、もしも人が、初対面の印象の通りの人間であるとしたらシャノンさんほどその予想を裏切る人はいないと思います。兎にも角にもシャノンさんは優しい人です。彼とキュレーションチームとして話をする中で僕に浮かんだ表現は「優しさを鞘に収める」です。
彼の話を聞いていると、昔から非常に大きく深い優しさを持った人であったということを感じます。特に、その優しさは多様性であったりマイノリティに対する優しさだと。
優しさを鞘に収めるとは、優しさが諸刃の剣であるというイメージをシャノンさんから受け取ったことから出てきた言葉です。シャノンさんは優しさによって人を、そして誰よりも自分自身を傷つけてきた人です。
誰もが一度は「優しくありたい」と思うことでしょう。しかしそれは、その優しいという言葉とは裏腹にとても扱いにくいものです。彼のトークからは、優しさへの向き合い方を学ぶことができると感じています。

 

The Curation Team Introduces The Speakers Again – part 1

The curation team has practiced meetings and rehearsals with each speaker in order to enrich their lectures.
The curation team staff are those nearest to the speakers. The inexpresseable, individual appeal of each speaker will be introduced by us, the curation team, in 2 parts.

From architect Mr. Yamazaki’s speeches and behavior, we feel he always accesses the world with courtesty. However, he hides his real emotion – such as very deep anger – within himself. We think his appeal is precisely that, though – the heat radiated from his hidden anger.
We feel there is warmth and heat in the architecture produced by Mr. Yamazaki.
He expresses his hidden anger as not violence, but as consideration toward the world.
We can feel the importantance of this consideration. When they act unconciously violent or in a way against their true intention, we hope this idea reaches the many kind people out there at that moment.

Mr. Fujii, the leader of the “venture to convert an iconic vehicle into an electronic car” is a very interesting person. We feel he has other goals that he wants to accomplish; even as he works on “the venture to convert an iconic vehicle into an electronic car”, a catchy slogan for everybody. For the realization of a sustainable society, it is generally acknowledged that the use of renewable energy is promoted. However we think that what Mr. Fujii wants to say is a higher level idea. For example, there was an event in which a DeLorean was driven, fuelled only by beer and garbage back in 2010.
‘Dreamlike matter’ such as time travel is realized by a method which is absolutely impossible like a DeLorean in the movie. We suspect there is an answer in the difference between common sense ( or the route to reach the answer).
We expect to listen about the milestones needed in order to reach ‘the future’ which he encountered in the process of producing the DeLorean EV in his speech.

Mrs. Mashimo is a lawyer and director of the “Stop Bullying! Navi” NPO. I like her use of the word “No kidding!” I especially like that it was spoken at the moment when she faced difficulties in which a usual person would get cold feet.

Mrs. Mashimo’s challenge is to create the solution for “bullying”, a sensitve and easily complicated problem. She challenges this problem from a position of equality, even if she herself has strong power as a lawyer.

We think her speech is sometime difficult because each of her words has hidden foresight and constraint toward several positions. However, what Mrs. Mashimo wants to say is simple.

“Let’s solve bullying.”

Even an elementary school student can understand this sentence. We think that the essence of what Mrs. Mashimo is struggling with is that this sentence can’t be understood simply by saying it.

Shannon is a mentor. If people are but their first impression, if everyone were like Shannon then no one would betray our expectation.
Anyway, Shannon is a kind person. The following expression came to mind as we talked with him as a curation team; “sheathing kindness”.

I felt he had very large and deep kindness since I first listened his speech, a long time ago. That kindness is the one for diversity or minorities. Sheathing kindess is the word which we had in our mind, our image of Shannon. That image was that kindness was, however, a double-edged sword. Shannon has hurt other people through his kindness, and he himself has been hurt more than others.

 

Everybody thinks at some point,“I want to be kind”. However it is very difficult to handle the contrasted meaning of kindness. I think we will learn how to face kindness from his talk.
