キュレーションチームから、改めてスピーカーの皆さんを紹介 – その２

現在、キュレーションチームは、各スピーカーと講演内容をさらに充実したものにするべく、打ち合わせとリハーサルを重ねています。
スピーカープロフィールだけでは分からない登壇者の魅力を、彼らに一番近いキュレーションチームから、２回に分けてお届けします。

盗み稽古って、聞いたことがありますか？
職人の世界では、最初の数年は下働きが当たり前。小さな仕事をこなしながら、師匠の仕事ぶりを間近に見て技術を習得するといった話をよく聞きます。
でも、その言葉が、アメリカ在住のダグラスさんから出て来たのには驚きました。
ダグラスさんは、アメリカの船大工であり、船舶雑誌ライターであり、伝統木造船製作研究家として、たくさんの木造船を見て、そして実際に作って来ました。
彼は昔、初めて日本に来た時に、佐渡で「たらい舟」を見たことがきっかけで、和船に興味を持ちます。そして、たくさんの船大工に会いました。しかし、そのほとんどが跡継ぎがいなくて、和船の技術が途切れつつあることに危機感を持ち、自ら弟子入りを志願し、そして、製造過程の記録を取り、図面を起こすことで、技術を次代に継承することができるのではないかと模索します。
その模索という旅を通して、ダグラスさんが、我々も知らない日本の智慧、現代が忘れてしまった本質を、知ることになります。

クリスティンは、サンフランシスコ在住。
キュレーションチームとの最初の接触は、今年の４月。
東京目黒にある、Impact HUB Tokyo という、コワーキングスペース。
桜の見物客でごったがえす、目黒川を渡ってすぐにある、そのイベント会場で、彼女の「ビジョン・ブースト」ワークショップが開催されていました。
私は、少し遅れてその会場に入ったのですが、エネルギッシュな声。遠くを見渡す目。そして、何より、全身から放たれる、ポジティブなエネルギーに、会場がすでに、静かな熱さに包まれていました。
彼女のワークショップは、夢をどうやって現実にするか、がテーマでした。
なんと、彼女はすでに、その方法論で夢を叶えて、この会場にいると言うのです。
２ヶ月前に、日本に来たいと思った。なぜか、日本に惹かれている。そう「感じた」彼女は、そのビジョンを「HOLD」・・・持ち続けます。そして、満員の聴衆を前に、彼女は今、ワークショップをしています。

作家であり、アーティストのMahoshonoさんは、とても印象的な女性です。
まるで剥き出しの魂が目の前に存在しているかのような気持ちになりました。
Mahoさんが剥き出しの魂であるとは、これらの鎧や皮膚をまとっていないように感じたからです。それは、人の本質を真っ直ぐに最短距離で見ることであり、多くの人がしている回りくどいコミュニケーションを飛び越えたコミュニケーションができる人であるということです。
これはとても魅力的であると同時に、ある種の人にとっては耐え難い存在でもあると思います。ある種の人とは、自分自身の醜さやダメなところに自覚的でありながら認めたくないと考えている人びとです。そんな人にとっては、Mahoさんとの対話はとても苦い時間です。なぜなら、自分で気づいていながら見ないようにしていたものこそ、本当は向き合うべきものなのだと言われるからです。
Mahoさんの瞳に映る世界は、たぶんどんな人が想像するよりも本質的で美しさを超えたものなんだと思います。そこではあらゆる出来事が自明の理の中に存在しているにもかかわらず、僕らは暗闇を手探りで歩くように見えているのだと思います。だからまほさんは、「本当はこっちに行くんだよ」「手元の明かりはすぐそこにあるよ」ということを伝えようと言葉を紡いでいるのではないかと思います。

「米国の経営大学院で組織開発修士号を最高成績で修了。グローバル企業の人事部マネジャーとして人材・組織開発、新卒採用・育成を担う。」
この肩書きから想像したイメージと、実際の本人のイメージのギャップに驚いたのは、登壇をお願いするために、スカイプで対面した時でした。
とても気さくで、そして、一言一言、こちらが言いたいことを言葉にしようとしただけで、その真意をすぐに聴き取ってくれるような、人としての深さ。気さくさと深さが同居している。今までこんな人に会ったことない。それが、最初の驚きでした。
彼女との会話には、「つながり」とか「命」と言う言葉が沢山出て来ます。その言葉は、使い古されている言葉なのに、由佐さんから放たれると、少し違った色彩を帯びて、我々の元に届いて来るように感じます。それは、我々の無意識がもともと知っていた、本質的に深い意味を含んでいて、その意味を空気のようにまとって、こちらに飛んで来るからです。
彼女は、言います。「きっと、我々は、宇宙に、引き寄せられているんですよ」。

 
Introducing The Speakers, Part 2 of 2

The Curation Team has been working hard on rehearsals and finding ways to make the most of each speaker’s time on stage for a fulfilling event. The following is part 2 of the speaker introduction series which provides you a little more insight on who the speakers are beyond their biographies.

Have you ever heard of mitori geiko? It basically translates to “observation practice.”

In mitori geiko, it is said that you learn and improve your skills when you watch your masters closely doing their chores. Therefore, it is necessary for a craftsman to merely observe and do menial work for the first few years in order to learn.

We were impressed to hear that term used by Douglas who is from America.

Douglas has lots of experience of building ships in America. He has written articles for various ship and boat magazines and has even worked as a researcher at a traditional wooden boat factory to try to see and make lots of boats.

His curiosity for Japanese boats started when he first came to Japan and saw a tarai-bune, or tub-turned boat, in Sado, Niigata. He met many boatbuilders, but he realized that most of them had few successors. He felt that the practice and skill of Japanese boatbuilding was slowly disappearing. So he decided to apprentice himself to them. He focused on recording the manufacturing process and then drew up a plan to protect the technique and allow it to live on. While overcoming obstacles as he tried to protect it, Douglas has gained the Japanese wisdom and life essence which tends to be forgotten these days.

Kristin Hayden lives in San Francisco. Our first time meeting her was in April of last year at the co-working space called “Impact HUB Tokyo” in Meguro, Tokyo. On that day, lots of people were walking around and enjoying the cherry blossoms. Right across the Meguro River, she was holding a workshop named “Vision Boost.”

Although the workshop had already started when I walked inside, I could feel her energetic voice and appearance looking out over the audience. The audience was filled with excitement from the positivity radiating from her.

The topic of her workshop was about how to accomplish our dreams. Believe it or not, she told us that the methodology had helped her dream come true and led her to the site.

She wanted to come to Japan two months ago. Somehow, she found herself drawn to Japan and kept holding her vision. As a result, she came to engage the lecture in front of the full audience participation.

Mahoshono is a writer, artist, and in general, a very impressive woman. When we met her, we felt as if there was an unreserved and bare soul standing right in front of us because she does not hide herself in armor or build walls around her. This told us that she has the ability to see people’s real nature immediately, and that she doesn’t need complicated communication that other people do.

Her ability to do this is attractive, though it may be unbearable for some as it is difficult to admit to your downfalls. It must be tough for people who do not want to accept their flaws to interact with her, as she gives us the chance to face reality and the negative things we choose to ignore.

We believe that Maho’s eyes catch something more beautiful than anything we could ever imagine. Compared to her perceptive eyes, we are merely fumbling around in the dark.

She gives us advice saying “you should go this way” or “your invisible light is right over there” and leads us in the right direction.

From her bio: “Mikako graduated with high marks from the organizational development master’s degree program at a University in United States. She has worked as an HR manager at global major corporations in talent/leadership and organizational development and recruitment.”

We had no idea that she would be so different from the person we expected after reading her bio. We were surprised by the gap between the image perceived from job description and her actual character when we met her on Skype for a meeting.

Mikako is a person who is easy to get along with and has deep insight. She picks up our true feelings when we speak. It was a surprise to see such a friendly and thoughtful person like her – her personality is one we have never experienced before.

In conversation with her, we heard the words “connection” and “life” a lot. They are commonly used words, but we felt like the words have a different connotation and are covered with slightly different color when she uses them. They contained deep meaning we knew in our subconscious, and seemed fly to us with the meaning quite naturally, like air.

As she says, “We are probably drawn to the universe.”
